Prioritise Education...

Parents in the rural areas are urged to change their mindset and give the most priority to their children’s education as this will lead to a better life for them eventually. Rural and Regional Development Minister Datuk Seri Mohd Safie Apdal said majority of the rural folks have lower education level and only 14.3% of the work force in rural areas are qualified with higher education.

“We want parents to spend more quality time with their children especially to monitor their progress in education,” he said in his speech read by his Deputy Datuk Hassan Malek at the closing ceremony of the Human Capital convention.

He said one way of achieving that was to have a least one child from one family in rural areas holding a professional job. Teacher’s skills at schools and educational institutions in rural areas, he added, would be further improved and enhanced to ensure they would be able to impart better knowledge to students.

He hoped participants had benefited from the attending convention and this was one of the initiatives taken by the ministry improve better parenting skills to rural folks. Mohd Shafie said modern living standards is now a challenge for parents to ensure that their children are not problematic or involved in social ills.
